STORY

Originally trading as the “Kim Bowkett Dance Centre” and more recently as “Theatre & Dance”, 2018 saw long-time studio employees Kylie Goeldner and Renée Emery take the helm as studio directors. Kylie and Renée bring a combined 40 plus years of teaching and performing experience to the role and create an environment that is nurturing, fun and innovative.

Their wholistic approach to the study of Performing Arts and how it can be used to enrich and enhance the lives of their students and everyone they perform for means T&D is more than just a dance school.

Kylie Goeldner
CSTD, Cert IV in Dance, Cert IV in Training and Assessment,
Diploma in Fitness Practices

Kylie trained with the Australian Youth Ballet and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, New York and worked as a professional dancer for 20 years. She performed in ballet companies, contemporary companies, cruise ships, cabaret productions and commercial work in Australia, Canada, the United States, South Africa and Asia. As a choreographer Kylie has created work for Jupiter’s Casino, The Great Moscow Circus and corporate events including Mercedes-Benz Fashion parades, The Brisbane Ekka Cotton/Wool parades, The Engineers Awards, V8 Supercars and NRL Grand Finals as well as corporate clients Virgin Airlines, Boost Juice, Coca-Cola and Tourism Queensland.

Kylie has appeared in print ads for Dance Train, Jupiter’s Casino and television commercials for Pepsi and Ostelin. She teaches regularly for the Royal Academy of Dancing and has choreographed for their Jacqueline Morland Awards and for the Genee Awards. Kylie is a sought after freelance teacher, choreographer and adjudicator.

Renée Emery
CSTD, BA Applied Theatre

Renée has been a staff member at Theatre & Dance since the beginning of 2007 and is an accomplished acting and singing teacher. She trained in singing with Jacqui Devereux for 15 years and continued to strengthen her technique and teaching practices under the guidance of Jessica O’Bryan (Queensland Conservatorium). Renée has been an active member in the Brisbane dance community since the age of 5, and studied all styles of dance (CSTD – Jazz, Tap, Ballet and LGTDA – Tap) at the Michele Keane Academy of Dance and later, at Starstruck Productions.

In 2006 Renée completed a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Theatre. Whilst studying for her degree, Renée was employed by the university as a script-writer and actor, travelling to schools in SE Queensland as part of a University funded education program. Since graduating she has taught musical theatre at both Jam Performing Arts and Australian Dance Performance Institute, Movement for Stage at Brisbane Arts Theatre, singing, acting and tinies dance at Starstruck Productions as well as appearing as a guest teacher for various organisations and Brisbane summer schools. Renée has featured in many musicals, plays and arts festivals in and around Brisbane but now focuses solely on teaching.

Her passions are Musical Theatre and nurturing a love of performance in children and young adults of all skill levels.

Ballet

Guy Wheatstone
Royal Ballet School, South African Ballet Theatre, Queensland Ballet

Guy Wheatstone is a ‘Royal Ballet School’ (RBS) trained dancer who now dedicates himself to teaching Ballet to young dancers. After being accepted into the ‘Royal Ballet School’ at 13 years old he graduated in 2008 and received a contract to dance with the ‘South African Ballet Theatre’ (SABT). There he was quickly promoted to Soloist and performed many Soloist and Principle roles including; Prince Siegfried in Swan Lake, the Snow Prince and the Nutcracker Prince in The Nutcracker, The Prince in Cinderella, Grand Pas Classique, Franz in Coppélia and many others. He then took up a position with ‘Queensland Ballet’ (QB) where he worked with world-renowned choreographers and performed roles in mainstage works, including Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Giselle, Cinderella, Carmen, Little Mermaid, Don Quixote, Cloudland, King Arthur and more. He also had several new contemporary works created on him during his time with QB.

He has toured internationally around South Africa, China, Italy and England as well as many regional tours of Australia. In 2012, under Li Cunxin, Guy received the ‘Khitercs Hirai Foundation International Study Tour’ where he trained extensively with the Royal Ballet, Het National Ballet, and San Francisco Ballet, gaining invaluable experience.

He now enjoys teaching Ballet to both recreational and fulltime dancers where he is experienced in identifying and correcting weaknesses in technique and teaching dancers how to use their bodies correctly. He is passionate about ballet as an art form and is driven to help dancers develop both technically and artistically.

Since he began teaching, he is honoured to have been able to coach students who went on to win the Alana Haines Australasian Award (AHA), and take Gold at the Genèe International Ballet Competition; he is currently training full-time students for the ‘Prix De Lausanne’ and the ‘Youth American Grand Prix’ (YAGP)

Guy is currently studying the ‘Professional Dancers Post-Graduate Teachers Course’ (PDPTC) with the ‘Royal Academy of Dance’ (RAD) and has recently completed the ‘Progressing Ballet Technique’ (PBT) workshop and the ‘International Character Dance Syllabus’ (ICDS) course.

Ballet

Kym Stokes
M.A. Fine Arts (Dance), Adv Diploma in Dance (Australian Ballet School), Queensland Ballet

Kym is a Graduate of The Australian Ballet School, danced with The Australian Ballet Dancers Company and graduated with an Advanced Diploma in Dance. Kym furthered her career by dancing with Queensland Ballet Company under the Artistic Director Harold Collins performing in Carmen, Romeo and Juliet, Scheherazade and Alice.

Following her ballet career Kym and her husband Les developed their own Adagio and Aerial Act “Majestic” travelling the world performing as Guest Entertainers for various overseas companies including Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and Norwegian cruise Lines. They have been a Specialty Act at Star Casino performing in shows Innerve, Storm and Zircus. They have performed at many Corporate Events in Australia and overseas a highlight was performing at a gala evening in Miami for Miami City Ballet Company. Majestic were Finalists on Australia’s Got Talent showcasing their Adagio and Aerial Acts.

Kym has a Masters of Fine Arts (Dance) from QUT and is now teaching Classical Ballet, Repertoire and Pilates to dancers in Brisbane. Kym also offers private coaching for many dance students, some are in the ABS extension program and QBA associate program. Most recently Kym coached a ballet student for YAGP and personally travelled with her to New York City for the competition. www.kymstokescoaching.com

Ballet

Jade Wilson
Diploma of Dance, Certificate IV in Dance, Diploma of Dance (Elite Performance)

Jade commenced dancing at the age of 4 and studied RAD Ballet (Advanced 2), CSTD Jazz, Contemporary, Lyrical, Cabaret, Hip Hop and CSTD Tap.
Jade successfully auditioned for the Queensland Dance School of Excellence (QDSE) in 2014, where she completed her senior school studies and gained a Diploma of Dance at Kelvin Grove State College, in association with the Queensland Ballet.

After graduating, Jade completed her Certificate IV in Dance (2016) and Diploma of Dance (Elite Performance) (2017) Performing Arts Courses at Dance Force on the Gold Coast. This included touring their 2017 graduation show to Hervey Bay, Hobart, Sydney and Melbourne. In 2018 Jade was selected to perform a self-choreographed piece at the Evolve – Young Creators Gala for the Innate Dance Company and also choreographed for the T&D Certificate III dancers end of year display. Jade has been a featured dancer at many Charity events, including Act for Kids Gala Ball and Chaplaincy Frontline Appeals Dinner. Jade has also performed the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy in the 2013 and 2014 Myer Christmas Parades.

Jade is currently teaching Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary and Jazz Technique on the Gold Coast and is excited to join the T&D team in 2019

Jazz

Kristy Talbot
Certificate IV in Performing Arts

Kristy began her training in Jazz (CSTD), and Ballet (RAD), Contemporary, Lyrical and Singing at Kim Bowkett Centre and Embien Studios. Later also attending the Queensland Dance School of Excellence for years 11 and 12. After graduating, she moved to Sydney to completed the Certificate IV Full-time Performing Arts Course at Brent Street Studios, and then successfully auditioned for the Wiggle. Kristy worked as a dancer and character suit performer with the popular children’s group for the next 8 years. During this time she was lucky enough to tour many times through the USA, Canada, U.K, Asia, New Zealnd and Australia, appear in numerous Wiggles TV Series, 18 of their DVD’s, perform on shows such as The View, Live with Regis and Kelly, The Late Late Show with Craig Fergusson, The Today Show in America and Ausralia, Sunrise, Carols in the Domain and take part in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC. whilst travelling Kristy took the opportunity to train at some world renowned studious in New York, Los Angeles, London and Sydney. Since moving back to Brisbane in 2010, Kristy has been involved in numerous corporate and fundraising events as both a performer and choreographer, and has taught classes and choreographed routines for dance schools all around Queensland. She now teaches exclusively at T&D and loves having the opportunity to work and create in a supportive environment and teach wonderfully talented students.

Jazz

Annabelle Bond
Certificate III in Dance

Annabelle has studied Ballet (RAD Advanced 2 Distinction), Jazz (CSTD), Tap, Contemprary and Musical Theatre since the age of 2. She has obtained her Certificate III in Dance and performed overseas in the USA and Macau. She is currently directing and choreographing school dance programs around Brisbane as well as studying a Bachelor of Primary Education.

Tap

Tamara Fisher
CSTD Teachers Diploma – Tap, BA Biomedical Science

Tamara has been teaching at T&D since 2011 in all styles of dance as well as singing. She began training in jazz (CSTD), tap (CSTD, LGTDA), ballet (RAD) and musical theatre at the age of 2 with Starstruck Productions, moving to Theatre & Dance in 2008. Tamara has successfully completed the final CSTD examination grades in tap, musical theatre and jazz, achieving the highest mark in Queensland for Grade 8 Jazz for 2015.

After graduating high school, Tamara studied full-time musical theatre with T&D in 2012. Throughout that year she performed at various corporate and charity events, and performed as a dancer and singer for several Oscar Theatre Company shows, including the original production of Boy&Girl.

After completing her full-time course, Tamara decided to pursue a completely different career path in the field of science. She graduated from the Queensland University of Technology in 2016 with a Bachelor of Biomedical Science with Distinction (Anatomical Sciences), and is currently studying a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) at Griffith University.

Over the past 2 years, Tamara has thoroughly enjoyed learning the revised CSTD Tap Syllabus and teaching it to all T&D tap students who’ve received outstanding results in their examinations. She loves coming to T&D to teach every day and simply can’t imagine life without it!

Courtney Fisher
CSTD Teachers Certificate – Tap

Courtney began dancing at age 2 and has been dancing at Theatre & Dance since the age of 8. She continued to be a valued member of T&D’s performance team until 2018, competing in eisteddfods and dancing in various charity events. Courtney has trained in the styles of jazz, tap, ballet, lyrical, contemporary and musical theatre. She has completed senior CSTD exams for which she achieved honours plus for all tap, jazz and musical theatre grades, as well as being awarded the highest mark in the state for Grade 7 Theatrical Performing Arts in 2017. Courtney has also completed her Advanced 1 RAD ballet exam for which she achieved a distinction.

Courtney began student teaching at T&D in 2017 in preparation for her CSTD tap certificate examination that she completed in September that year. Courtney has loved teaching junior school and CSTD tap to all ages in 2018. She is looking forward to completing her CSTD teaching diploma in tap and CTSD teaching certificate in jazz this year.

Courtney is currently in her 3rd year studying a Bachelor of Speech Pathology at the University of Queensland. She has thoroughly enjoyed learning about childhood development which has fuelled her passion for teaching the little ones at T&D.

Junior School

Marisa Seipel
BEd-EC&P

As a graduate of the Kim Bowkett Dance Centre, Marisa has had extensive training in RAD Classical Ballet, CSTD & FATD Tap & Jazz, contemporary & lyrical dance and musical theatre. Marisa has also completed studies in AMEB Speech & Drama as well as both classical & modern vocal training. Marisa also studied at Emblen Studios, and was an original cast member of “Theatre Kids”.

After graduating from High School, Marisa travelled as a professional dancer. Her performance credits include Warana, Christmas in Storyland, various Westfield shows, Myer Fashion Parades, “SCAT” song & dance troupe, lead dancer for the “Showtime” dance company, lead dancer for the “Wallaces” organisation, back-up dancer for singer Kaye Gordon and as the lead role in local productions of “The Boyfriend” and “The Wiz”. Recently, she appeared as a dancer in the Suncorp ‘Sunny’ TV commercials.

Marisa’s strong creative arts background has given her many opportunities to work with children in schools, preschools and childcare centres teaching early movement, dance and drama.

In 2015, Marisa completed study for her Bachelor of Education Early Childhood & Primary (BEdEC&P) specialising in the education and development of preschool and primary aged children which she uses as a basis for teaching our littlest students in our junior school. She continues to study education, now completing her Masters of Education.

Junior School

Kristie Corkill

Kristie Corkill is an 18-year-old performer who has been involved with Theatre & Dance since 2008. She began dancing at the age of 5, but joined T&D a few years later, training from 2008-2017. As a student, she participated in RAD & CTSD exams as well as the Eisteddfod team from 2009. Here, she grew a passion for acting & musical theatre, either of which she wishes to pursue a career in. Currently, she is studying a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Drama) whilst auditioning for various national Acting & Musical Theatre courses. Kristie has recently begun performing with theatre groups and local companies such as School2Stage.

Karen Fisher

Karen Fisher has been the smiling face at the door of Theatre & Dance since 2009. Karen grew up dancing in Ipswich, training in CSTD Tap, Jazz and Classical Ballet. She is our administrative extraordinaire, our costume guru, our toastie maker and hug giver. Karen can answer all your questions about classes, timetables, invoices and so much more.

21 Castlemaine Street Coorparoo, 4151 Brisbane,

We are close to the city, not far from the Gabba Cricket Grounds, a very short walk from the Coorparoo train station and easily accessible by car and public transport.

Our building is approximately 1200 square metres and features five studios with air conditioning throughout, large waiting areas, sprung floors, tarkett, mirrors, viewing windows and an office with friendly staff – all in a bright and inviting atmosphere.
